SELF PUBLISHING BOOKS

Self-publishing is where you perform the whole process yourself: from creating the original text and drawings, through layout, printing and binding, to distribution and sales. It sounds daunting, but it is actually quite easy. If you are prepared to settle for producing paperback books in small numbers, it can also be inexpensive.

After Two years of research and typing, the book is finally complete. I should be happy, but beside this pile of paper which is my book is an equally thick pile marked "Reject Slips". For a publisher to publish a book can cost many thousands of Pounds, Dollars, Marks, Francs..... Because publishing houses are not charities they like to see a return on their investments - the easiest way to do this is to publish books by famous people, well known authors and the like; hence the pile of reject slips. Where to go next? How can I get my book published? An increasing number of people are turning to self-publishing.

Sadly, in today's publishing industry, high-quality manuscripts by new authors' will go unpublished simply because it must appeal to the financial necessities of the publisher - unless your credentials is such that the public will guarantee to buy your book because of your famous name. Another major reason is due to publishers and literary agents - about 10,000 manuscripts arrive on their desks and obviously they cannot publish or go through them all. More...

    • Believe in yourself and your writing talent. Ask yourself would you buy the book you wrote or intend to write?

    • The challenge for every writer is two fold: to have something to tell you and have the ingenuity of great writing, creative plots and to keep one interested, is indeed a wonderful technique to have. Therefore you deserve to be published - even if you self-publish, at least you'll have a book published, earn some money from your hard work and have a writing career behind you. · Some publishers will take on between 1 and 5 new authors per year, depending on how many new books are due to be published by their already list of authors. They calculate on how much money is left in the kitty to pay for publicity on a new author.
